About Mickey

Mickey King, Jr. is an entrepreneur and investor with a proven track record in the healthcare space. In 1990 he founded Lifescan, a vascular ultrasound company, which was acquired by Horizon Healthcare in 1994. His impact on the industry continued when he established Ultrascan in 1996. Ultrascan became a leading provider of mobile ultrasound and nuclear imaging, and the company was acquired by Digirad Corporation in 2007. King is currently President and CEO of Digirad Ultrascan Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Digirad Imaging Solutions as well as serving as Executive Chairman.

King was the driving force behind Heart Screens for Teens, a non-profit program that provided free heart screenings for high school and college athletes. He was the first to offer the programs cardiac screening services to the athletes at the University of Tennessee, which uncovered at least two significant but diagnosable cardiac abnormalities during their first season. The program successfully expanded its reach to additional collegiate programs and professional athletic organizations including Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Falcons. Additionally, for many years King served on the University of Tennessee Pharmacy School Advisory Board.

Mickey is an avid fan of music, in particular, his sons, Mitchell Lane’s and Cole King’s award-winning acoustic music group, Raven and Red. They perform a variety of genres, including Americana, folk, Celtic, and country music.
